GOURMET TOUR
Day 1:
Arrive at Rome’s Airport and transfer to your hotel in Umbria. Gourmet dinner will be served followed by a lecture on fine Italian wines.
Day 2:
After breakfast, depart for Assisi to visit the Basilica of St. Francis, the Basilica of St. Maria degli Angeli, and Porziuncola, where St. Francis and his followers lived. Continue to Montefalco, to visit the wine cellar and taste the wine. During dinner you will be introduced to the art of "Abbinamento", the ways to compliment a dish with the right wine.
Day 3:
After breakfast depart for Torgiano, south of Perugia, well known for its Wine Museum, where you will taste some great wines. Then on to Todi, a well preserved medieval town and the birthplace of Jacopone da Todi, one of the fathers of the modern Italian language. Visit Deruta famous for it’s local artisan’s work. Dinner at the hotel.
Day 4:
After breakfast departure for Orvieto, a town perched on top of a hill overlooking the entire valley. Admire the architectural masterpiece of the Duomo. Visit the wine cellars of the Azienda Agricola Decugnano dei Barbi, including the ancient underground caves where the production of Spumante and red wine takes place. Visit Perugia the capital of Umbria, a town rich in cultural and artistic treasures. Dinner, and a second “lesson” in “Abbinamento".
Day 5:
After breakfast depart for Montepulciano. Its well known wine "Vino nobile" comes from the hills of this beautiful town that still preserves a renaissance atmosphere of churches and palaces from the Porta Prato to Piazza Grande. Wine tasting at the Azienda Agricola Contucci, with its wine cellars dating back to the 1300's. Dinner and overnight in Montecatini.
Day 6:
After breakfast visit Siena and San Gimignano. The Prince of Wales called Siena “the ideal city”, perfect for all connoisseurs and lovers of Italian wines who come to visit the Enoteca Italiana, the most important and complete collection of wines from all over Italy. Vernaccia, a famous wine is produced here, and the only white wine of Tuscany given the seal of quality. Gourmet dinner with a lesson on "Abbinamento" of the wines of the Tuscan region. Overnight.
Day 7:
After breakfast depart on to Florence, for a brief tour of the city. In the afternoon we will explore the area where the Chianti wine is produced. The excursion will take us to Greve in Chianti hometown of the Chianti Classico. Stop at a farm factory for wine and Tuscan Salami tasting. Gala dinner. All our guests will receive a certificate of attendance and knowledge of the wines of Umbria and Tuscany.
